South Korean singer Wheesung was found dead at his house in Seoul, police announced on Monday. He was 43.

Wheesung, who debuted in 2002, was famous for his soulful performances in the country. This comes weeks after Kim Sae-ron was found dead after a major decline in her career following the 2022 drunk driving incident, Reuters reported.

What happened?

His body was found at his residence in northern Seoul's Gwangjin-gu.

As of now, the cause of death is yet to be determined, while the local police has denied any signs of foul play, Yonhap News Agency reported.

Emergency responders found him unconscious at his apartment at 6:29 PM (local time) when his mother called for help, police said.

Depending upon the circumstances, authorities are of the view that a significant amount of time had passed before the singer's body was recovered, according to The Straits Times, which added that the cause of the death is currently being investigated.

"Artist Wheesung has left us. He was found in cardiac arrest at his residence and was later pronounced dead," The Korea Times quoted Tajoy Entertainment as saying.

The agency added that its staff and colleagues are "in deep sorrow" after the singer's demise.

Wheesung was expected to meet his manager during the day, however, he remained unavailable. This is when his mother went to check and found him unresponsive. She lives in the same apartment building, the local news outlet stated.

His talent agency has even asked fans to stay clear of any "unverified rumours or speculative reports out of respect for his bereaved family".

As per reports, Weesung was all set to perform alongside ballad singer KCM in Daegu on March 15.

Downfall

In 2020, Wheesung was heavily criticised by many after he was indicted on charges of illegal use of propofol, an anesthetic.

During his appellate trial in 2021, the singer was given a two-year suspension as well as one year in jail.

Post the court's ruling, he majorly was dependent on live performances in the country and less of TV appearances.
