Prosecutors described Brand as a "sexual predator." He denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty. The inputs are taken from the New York Post and Reuters.

What did Russell Brand say during the trial

Russell Brand maintained that his sexual encounters had been consensual, although he acknowledged during his testimony that he had been obsessed with explicit fantasies when he was younger. His lawyer, Ian Winter, argued that a 2023 documentary and reports featuring anonymous accusations had affected the case. He urged the jury to distinguish between bad behaviour and criminal conduct. "It is not criminal to treat women unkindly before, during or after sex," Winter said. "It is not, I am afraid, criminal to be disrespectful or rude or to act like a crazy idiot." Russell Brand's defence also argued that his sexual history did not prove the charges against him. Judge Joel Bennathan said Brand would be sentenced on Monday and indicated that he faced a lengthy prison term.
