Players stand for national anthem ceremonies

Players and managers from both the Blue Jays and Dodgers stood with their caps over their hearts as both national anthems were performed. The ceremonial performances preceded the decisive Game 7 matchup at Rogers Centre.

The Blue Jays are leading the Dodgers 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning at the time this article was written. Blue Jays star second baseman Bo Bichette blasted Toronto into the lead with a three-run home run off Shohei Ohtani in the third inning. The Dodgers pulled one run back in the top of the fourth and sixth innings to narrow the lead, but the Blue Jays rebuilt a two-run lead in the bottom of the sixth on an Andrés Giménez double.

Blue Jays rookie Trey Yesavage, who was the hero in Game 5, came up clutch again in the seventh inning in relief, getting Will Smith to fly out to center and Freddie Freeman to ground into a double play. With Rogers Centre rocking, the Jays find themselves six outs away from their first title in 32 years.

Benches clear after hit by pitch in fourth inning

Benches cleared in the fourth inning after Dodgers pitcher Justin Wrobleski hit Toronto's Andrés Giménez with a pitch inside. The incident came one pitch after Giménez appeared to try to lean into a ball inside that narrowly missed him. Wrobleski and Giménez exchanged words and both benches and bullpens emptied, but cooler heads prevailed. Home plate umpire Jordan Baker issued warnings to both teams.

The Blue Jays entered Game 7 seeking their first World Series championship since 1993. Toronto nearly defeated the Dodgers in Game 6 on Friday night, but the comeback attempt fell short in the ninth inning when Los Angeles turned a game-ending double play to force Game 7.

Dodgers attempt back-to-back championships

Los Angeles aimed to become the first repeat World Series champion since the New York Yankees won consecutive titles in 1999 and 2000. The Dodgers are defending their championship from the previous season but trail heading into the final innings at Rogers Centre.

Shohei Ohtani started the game on the mound for the Dodgers after leading off the game with a single at the plate, but was lifted from the game after allowing Bichette's three-run homer in the third inning. Max Scherzer started for the Blue Jays and pitched 4.1 strong innings before being relieved, exiting to a raucous ovation from the Rogers Centre crowd.

The World Series Game 7 represents a historic moment for both franchises. Toronto's pursuit of its first championship in over three decades contrasts with Los Angeles's attempt to secure consecutive titles. Both Toscano and Reid's national anthem performances set the stage for the decisive contest that remains in progress.
