Matthieu Blazy, the French-Belgian national, since 2021 has served as Bottega Veneta's creative director. In 2025, he will join the legendary French house.

Chanel announced on Thursday, after months of intense speculation, that Matthieu Blazy has been appointed as its artistic director of the house's fashion activities. Blazy will oversee all haute couture, ready-to-wear, and accessory collections, as quoted in a report by Vogue.

The president of Chanel Fashion and Chanel SA, Bruno Pavlovsky, will receive his reports. In a joint statement, Chanel's global CEO Leena Nair and global executive chairman Alain Wertheimer referred to the designer as one of the most gifted designers of his generation. His talent and vision will strengthen the brand's energy and our position as a luxury leader.

They are sure that Matthieu Blazy will continue to influence the future and write a new chapter in Chanel's history under Bruno Pavlovsky's direction.

Since Virginie Viard abruptly left Chanel in June 2024, the position has remained unfilled, leading to a flurry of speculation about who would eventually land what is arguably the most sought-after position in fashion. Designers ranging from Simon Porte Jacquemus to Hedi Slimane were regarded as leaders in the last six months.

With his flawless record, Blazy, who joins from Bottega Veneta, is a perfect fit for the position at Chanel, which entails creating ten collections annually.

The Paris-born, 40-year-old designer has an impeccable track record, making him well-suited to the role at Chanel, which involves designing 10 collections per year.

Under Blazy, Bottega Veneta became one of Milan's hottest brands, with a strong focus on craftsmanship. The brand proved particularly resilient in the luxury downturn, with sales up 4% in the first nine months of 2024 to €1.23 billion.
