Mary Austin and Freddie Mercury
Mary Austin, the former fiancee of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, is set to get £187.5 million as part of Queen's record-breaking £1 billion song catalog sale agreement with Sony. This significant amount is added to the fortune she received when Freddie passed away in 1991, and she also received further shares when his parents passed away, as per the reports of 'The Sun.'

Financial Stewardship and Inheritance

After Freddie passed away in 1991, Mary received a large amount of his fortune, which included 50% of his future earnings and properties. Following Freddie's parents' passing in 2003 and 2016, her stake rose to 75%. Along with managing the band's catalog and paying royalties to the surviving members, she is also in charge of 18.75% of the company's earnings, Queen Productions.

Early Life and Freddie Mercury's Relationship

When Mary first met Freddie in 1970, she was a 19-year-old art student while he was an aspiring musician in London. In 1973, they moved in together and became engaged. Six years into their relationship, Freddie's revelation of his homosexuality in 1976 marked a turning point. They stayed close in spite of this; Freddie called Mary his "common-law wife" and closest confidante.

Challenges and Resentment

Mary has faced criticism from Freddie's inner circle and estrangement from the Queen's remaining members, despite her crucial position in Freddie's life and estate. Despite their joint trusteeship in the charity Mercury Phoenix Trust, she has spoken of feeling cut off from them since Freddie's death.

Personal Life and Heritage

Mary, who is 73 years old, has opted for a quiet life away from the spotlight. She keeps a low profile while ensuring her two adult sons from a previous marriage attend a private school. She finds comfort in Queen's continuing appeal despite obstacles, which is best demonstrated by the success of the 2018 biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody," which took in over £700 million worldwide, as reported by 'The Sun.'

Financial decisions

The successful biopic reportedly brought in over £40 million in royalties for Mary. Unfazed, she took a big decision to put everything from Freddie's West Kensington house up for sale in April last year.

Mary said that to conclude a major chapter in her life, was a tough but essential action. She underlined how courageous it takes to give up everything. The auction, which took place at Sotheby's in September of last year, raised an incredible £40 million beyond its initial estimate of £7 million. A portion of the earnings went to support charitable organizations.
