Truesdell was found guilty on three counts of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree murder on Monday, November 17, 2025, as reported by KCRG, an affiliate of ABC. KCRG also reported that the beatings occurred in a detached garage in Marion, Iowa.
Sheriff's office reveals Truesdell's likely motive
The sheriff's office said at the time that Truesdell's possible motive was "the possibility of the crime being made into a movie," according to PEOPLE. The movie comments were suppressed from the jury, according to the online platform The Register.
Police stated that all four victims sustained blunt force trauma, PEOPLE reported. One of the victims, Brown, was initially taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died. The other three were pronounced dead at the scene.
Who is Luke Truesdell?
Truesdell, the defendant, was employed as a yard worker with Ely-based T&K Roofing Co. in 2024 at the time of the murders, according to The Register. The company issued a statement following the incident and promised its full cooperation with authorities.
Before he was arrested, Truesdell had been charged with criminal mischief in 2008 and with assault causing bodily injury in 2010, according to court documents. Besides this, he also had some traffic citations.

The Register reported that Truesdell told police he believed the people he attacked were involved in sex trafficking. There was, however, no evidence to support that claim. The outlet further reported that Truesdell said he was high on methamphetamine and had not slept in two days.
According to KCRG, Truesdell was convicted of first-degree murder in the deaths of Ryan, Parker and Brown and second-degree murder in Cooper's death. He faces life in prison at his sentencing, which is scheduled for Feb. 27, 2026, according to the outlet.
