The tragic death of 19-year-old Emmanuelle “Emman” Atienza has cast a shadow over both the Filipino entertainment industry and one of the country’s most recognizable families. As fans and family mourn her passing, attention has turned to her father, veteran broadcaster and former politician Kim Atienza, better known to millions as Kuya Kim.

Who is Kuya Kim Atienza?

Kuya Kim Atienza, 58, is one of the Philippines’ most familiar television personalities. Known for his signature trivia segments and charismatic delivery, he currently appears on GMA Network as a segment presenter for 24 Oras and 24 Oras Weekend, and hosts the shows TiktoClock and Dami Mong Alam, Kuya Kim!

Before embarking on his long-running career in broadcasting, Atienza also laid a foundation in public service. He served as councilor of the 5th District of Manila for three consecutive terms, following in the footsteps of his father, Lito Atienza, a former Manila mayor and Buhay Party-List representative. His family’s deep involvement in politics and civic affairs has long made them one of Manila’s most influential clans.

Atienza attended the University of Santo Tomas before transferring to the University of the Philippines Diliman, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Film and Audiovisual Communication.

Atienza’s unique blend of intellect and charisma helped him earn the moniker “Kuya Kim,” meaning “Brother Kim.”

Emman’s passing has placed the Atienza family back in the public eye, but their legacy extends beyond fame. Kuya Kim’s father, Lito Atienza, was a major figure in Manila politics, serving as both mayor and a House representative, while his brother Ali Atienza has also been active in government and sports administration.

Emman herself was beginning to forge her own path, not in politics, but in media and social advocacy. Represented by GMA’s Sparkle talent agency, she used platforms like TikTok to champion mental health awareness, equality, and authenticity, inspiring many young Filipinos to speak openly about their struggles.

According to data from People AI, Kuya Kim Atienza’s net worth is estimated at approximately $25.3 million.

In a heartfelt statement released by the Atienza family, Kim, his wife Felicia Hung, and their children Eliana and Jose described Emman as a “bright light” whose warmth and courage touched countless lives. “She wasn’t afraid to share her own journey with mental health. Her authenticity helped so many feel less alone,” the statement read.
