NBC’s major Sunday politics show ‘Meet the Press’ will be taken over by Kristen Welker after Chuck Todd announced that he will be stepping down as the host.

Who is Kristen Welker?
Kristen Welker is a 46-year-old NBC reporter who has regularly pitched in for Todd during his entire tenure. Earlier, she has also been the co-host of ‘Meet the Press NOW’ which is the channel’s show streaming online at NBC News NOW. In 2020, she was named as the co-anchor of ‘Weekend TODAY’ along with Peter Alexander.
Remarkably, Kristen Welker will be the first Black journalist to host ‘Meet the Press’ show when she takes the role in September. Welker will also be the 13th full-time host of the show joining the ranks of David Gregory, Tim Russert, Garrick Utley and others. However, it is to note that Welker is only the second woman. Martha Rountree was the first woman and she is also the co-creator of the show.
She graduated from Harvard University and became an intern for NBC’s ‘TODAY’ in 1997 and was a researcher at the end of 2011. In 2020, she received praise for navigating the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
