Who is Kimberly Guilfoyle? Trump Administration asks Ambassador to Greece to resign after a  series of serious allegations
Kimberly Guilfoyle has had a long career in television and Republican politics. The former Fox News host is making headlines today after the Trump administration asked her to resign as US ambassador to Greece. The decision follows reports about an alleged request for a donor to pay a $100,000 American Express bill, along with other questions about her conduct in the diplomatic role. The inputs are taken from various outlets- the New York Times, Time Magazine and NBC News.

Who is Kimberly Guilfoyle

Before becoming an ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle was a familiar face on Fox News. She co-hosted The Five from 2011 to 2018 after first building a career in law. She was appointed a district attorney in San Francisco in 2000 and also worked in the district attorney’s offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles. She later moved into politics becoming a fundraiser for Donald Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign.

Guilfoyle also came under scrutiny over her role in events surrounding the January 6 2021 attack on the US Capitol. She met with the House committee that was looking into the attack in 2022. Trump announced his intention to nominate her as ambassador to Greece in December 2024. She was sworn in back in September 2025, becoming the woman to hold the post.

Her personal life has often attracted attention, too. She was the ex-fiancée of Donald Trump Jr. and was previously married to Gavin Newsom between 2001 and 2006. Newsom later became California’s governor.

What is the $100,000 allegation against Guilfoyle

The latest controversy centers on Republican donor Eric Deters and an account he gave to The Wall Street Journal. Deters alleged that Guilfoyle asked him to send $100,000 directly to American Express to cover an outstanding credit card bill. According to the report, the request came shortly before her Senate confirmation hearing in July 2025.

He also claimed she offered to help him connect with senior Trump administration officials. Messages shared with the newspaper appeared to show Guilfoyle asking him to pay the credit card company directly so that “it won’t show up anywhere.”

Deters said he refused. In an interview with NBC News, he said: “She was so desperate for that $100,000. It was a quid pro quo.” He also claimed: “She said I could ask her for anything and everything in Trump world. There was no request too big.”

Guilfoyle’s legal team disputes his account. Her lawyer, Jesse Binnall, said the messages attributed to her were not authentic. Her lawyers have also argued that Deters owed her money for speaking engagements, which he denies. The allegations have not been established as fact.
