Who is Duce Piaia?
On August 30, 1944, Duce Piaia joined the United States Army and actively participated in the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. Throughout his service, he demonstrated bravery and dedication, resulting in his commendation with the Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medals, as well as the victory EAMET and American Theater ribbons. Piaia's honourable discharge from the military occurred on July 4, 1946, marking a significant milestone in his military career.
Based on official military documents, Duce Piaia was deployed overseas as part of the 90th Division, serving in various regiments and battalions including the 358th Infantry Regiment, 358th Engineers General Service Regiment, and the 1258th Engineers Combat Battalion.
His deployment spanned 18 months, during which he served in Germany and Czechoslovakia. Piaia fulfilled crucial transportation duties, operating a jeep and a 2 1/2-ton truck to transport personnel, supplies, and equipment. He navigated diverse road conditions and assumed responsibility for conducting minor repairs on the truck whenever needed, ensuring the continuity of operations. These records highlight Piaia's valuable contributions and dedication to fulfilling his duties as a serviceman during his time overseas.
