Former Boise State standout Jeanty was selected No. 6 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. The 22-year-old made an immediate impact as a rookie, starting all 17 games and rushing for 975 yards and five touchdowns while adding 346 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns. The Raiders expected Ashton Jeanty to play a major role in his second NFL season as first-year head coach Klint Kubiak looks to build a run-focused offense.
Rookie running back Mike Washington Jr. stepped in to handle the remaining first-team snaps after Jeanty left practice, reported ESPN. Washington has impressed throughout training camp and had already been sharing first-team opportunities with Jeanty before Sunday’s setback. His strong performances have positioned him as a potential option for a larger role if Jeanty is forced to miss time.
Jeanty appeared in Las Vegas’ preseason opener against the Arizona Cardinals but, along with other projected starters, sat out Thursday’s win over the Houston Texans.
If Jeanty misses time because of his apparent knee injury, the Raiders could rely more heavily on rookie Mike Washington Jr., who took first-team reps after Jeanty left Sunday’s practice. Other running back options include Dylan Laube, undrafted rookie Roman Hemby and Dare Ogunbowale.
