Members of a federal jury are all set to hear the opening statement in the most high-profile January 6 Capitol riots case on October 3. The issue is related to Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes and four other group members, who were involved in the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021, and are facing charges of seditious conspiracy. Prosecutors say the Oath Keepers planned a violent uprising at the Capitol to prevent Congress from clarifying the 2020 presidential election results.
Alex Friedfeld, who is an investigative researcher, said the trial was "extremely important" as it was about "accountability." During the trial, the prosecution will go first and make its case in nearly one and a half hours. After the prosecution, a defense counsel for each defendant will get around three hours to make their case.
