Joshua Jahn, 29, is identified as the alleged gunman who opened fire at a Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility Wednesday morning, September 24. This shooting killed one detainee and critically injured two others, according to four people briefed on the investigation who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the Washington Post reported.

Investigators said Jahn “fired indiscriminately” from a nearby rooftop, striking a van where the victims were located. He later died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said.

The victims’ identities have not been released, but the Mexican consulate in Dallas confirmed that one of the critically injured is a Mexican national. A photo of unspent bullet casings shared by multiple X accounts quickly went viral, which claimed to be recovered near Jahn's body. One casing reportedly had the handwritten message "ANTI-ICE."

However, Jahn's older brother, Noah Jahn, told NBC News that he was unaware of any strong political views his brother may have held. Since then a stirred-up debate has been going on online about what the alleged shooter’s family is like.

Brother – Noah Jahn

Joshua’s older brother, Noah, told NBC News that the family grew up in Allen, Texas, and participated in the Boy Scouts. He described Joshua as unemployed, with some coding experience, and planning to move onto their parents’ Oklahoma property. While their parents owned a rifle, Noah insisted his brother was “not a marksman” and that he would not have been capable of carrying out precise shots. He last saw Joshua two weeks before the shooting and said.

Mother—Sharon Jahn

The mother of Joshua Jahn, Sharon Jahn, had posted a series of anti-gun rants on Facebook aimed at Republican lawmakers just a few years ago, as per New York Post. Sharon Jahn lashed out at Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and GOP senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn over their support for the Second Amendment in resurfaced Facebook posts from May 2022. Some users also shared her followings on Facebook and blamed the “left-wing violence.”

Laura Lommer also claimed, “Sharon is a Democrat who makes social media posts attacking elected Texas Republican lawmakers who support the Second Amendment.” She added, “Just another example of FAILED Democrat parenting. Joshua Jahn is a radical leftist with a Democrat mother who spews her hatred on social media.”

Father—Andy Jahn

Some people in X claimed that the alleged Dallas shooter’s father, Andy Jahn, is a retired mechanical engineer. An X user also stated that he worked for 36 years as an engineer at a company that just so happens to provide escalator maintenance at UN headquarters.

However, there is no confirmation from law enforcement on this.
