Whiteout in Washington, DC; rain, heavy snow likely

In the last quarter of an hour, most DC has seen the invariable switch of rain to snow. The temperatures have fallen from 50 to 30 degrees, blowing at 40 mph. Some parts of the District are still reporting the mixing of sleet, but it has been predicted that those parts will also experience snowfall. Near-blizzards are also expected in some regions.

Conditions are getting worse for the Beltway, where the roads are getting increasingly dangerous, and the visibility is less than half a mile. The temperature is below the freezing point. As predicted by the weather forecast, Maryland will experience the transition of rain to snow a little slower than other areas. Currently, parts of Montgomery, Loudoun, Frederick, and Fauquier have the heaviest snowfall. In regions around Hagerstown and Winchester, the snowfall is already over an inch.


Although this weather will not last for many days, it is advised to stay home for the weekend. Precautions should be taken if planning to travel at all.

7:05 am- Reagan National Airport recorded a difference of 9 degrees in temperature from 49 to 40 in the last early hours, with some downtown areas as low as 30 degrees.

6:00 am- Many areas of the north received a snow storm warning. The estimate is around 5-6 inches of snow wind gusts up to 45 to 55 mph.
