The White House has warned that the country Iran might end up pursuing nuclear weapons following its weakened position in the Middle East specifically after losing key allies due to the recent conflicts, reported The Telegraph.

According to The Telegraph, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan briefed the transition team of US President- elect Donald Trump about the heightened risk of Tehran abandoning its commitment to not develop nuclear arms. This warning comes as Donald Trump considers airstrikes on the nuclear facilities of Iran upon taking office at the White House again.

The regional influence of Iran has been diminished due to Israeli strikes on its proxies and the fall of allies like Bashar al-Assad in the country Syria. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan also noted that this precarious state could lead Iran to accelerate its nuclear program as a defensive measure, asserted The Telegraph.

US President- elect Donald Trump and his team is reportedly evaluating the reduced standing of Iran while potentially allowing for more aggressive military options compared to the previous administration's diplomatic approach.

Adding onto that, the atomic regulator of UN has also indicated that Iran is nearing the capability to produce nuclear weapons while it further complicates the efforts to revive the nuclear deal of the year 2015, noted The Telegraph. Severe tensions are escalating as Iran protests US sanctions and arrests of its citizens related to technology transfers while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the other hand has vowed to retaliate against Iranian proxies in the country Yemen.
