The White House celebrates the confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve on the Supreme Court on Friday in an outdoor event with court members and lawmakers as COVID-19 cases spike among Washington's political class.

With this milestone decision and confirmation from Senate, Jackson becomes the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court. This is also a big win for President Joe Biden, as he had promised in his election campaign to nominate an African American woman to the post on the Supreme Court to encourage the infusion of a broader range of backgrounds in the federal judiciary.

Along with this, the primary factor behind the win of Biden in South Carolina for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 was "Black Women".

The White House said that "Jackson and Biden delivered remarks on the White House South Lawn at 12:15 pm ET. We had also invited Jackson's family, labour leaders and advocacy groups, current and former justices of the Supreme Court, U.S senators who voted to confirm Jackson, members of Biden's cabinet and Democratic House leaders for the event."

Jen Psaki, the White House spokesperson, said, "We had chosen the outdoor venue just to ensure the COVID-19 safety as there is a spike in the number of cases of this highly infectious disease."

The decision to hold the event outside also comes from the past bad decision of former President of U.S Donald Trump, who had organized the nomination ceremony in 2020 for Justice Amy Coney Barrett. Due to this, many Republicans who had attended the ceremony tested positive, and the entire event had become a super coronavirus spreader.

The White House has also emphasized that "We are taking preventive measures to protect President Biden from getting infected by COVID-19 but are also prepared for the possibility if he does test positive."

Thus, the White House is in action and taking the required measures after House Democrat Adam Schiff and Commerce and Department Secretary Gina Raimondo got positive back recently. And on Thursday morning House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tested positive who was closely working with Biden at crowded indoor events on Tuesday and Wednesday.
