When J K Rowling became a literary sensation, her Harry Potter series sold millions of copies and the movies based on these books became instant hits, many actors took the piggyback ride and they too became household names, but soon most of them disappeared.

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grin became international icons, but there were many others too who appeared in the series and movies.

Where are the Scots, who were inspired by the scenes based in Edinburgh and Hogwarts dazzled for some time before disappearing?



Robbie Coltrane


The portrayal of Rubeus fetched recognition to Robbie Coltrane, though he had bagged three BAFTA best actor awards and appeared with Piers Brosnan in a James Bond movie.

He appeared in all eight Harry Potter films and returned to 20th-century Reunion. But it proved to be Robbie Coltrane’s last appearance as Hagrid.

Kelly McDonald


Beginning with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 2, Kelly McDonald tries to establish herself as a film star.
She voiced Merida in Disney’s Brave along with Billy Connolly.
Her most notable role came in the sixth series of the Line of Duty where she portrayed DCI Joanne Davidson.

Peter Mullan


Peter Mullan acted in just the last two movies of the Potter franchise, but these roles made him one of the best performers for Scotland.

Mullan portrayed the role of evil death eater Yaxley, but it proved to be the most important story arc of the franchise. His Deathly Hallows part one and two made him remarkable though he had a distinguished career in both movies and television series.

Katie Leong


When Katie Leong grabbed the role of Cho Chang in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, she beat more than four thousand other aspirants.

Her on-screen kiss with hero Daniel Radcliffe became a matter of intense coverage and speculation after the film was released in 2005. She appeared in Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix in 2007.

She appeared along with Henderson and McDonald in T2 at 35.

Leong portrayed DC Blair Ferguson in the crime drama of Annika on BBC One.
