Netflix's popular fantasy series 'The Witcher' is set to come back for a Season 4. Though Season 3 suffered a little bit in popularity and saw a dip in viewership, compared to past installments, the show will look to rebound in the incoming fourth season with new series lead Liam Hemsworth.

It has already been reported that Season 4 of 'The Witcher' will get started right away and begin filming by September 2023. But as Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) strikes dominated much of 2023, production for the upcoming season was delayed. After the strike ended, 'The Witcher' and some of Netflix's other big series are a priority for the streamer.

According to Redanian Intelligence, pre-production for Season 4 is set to kick off in January 2024, with filming following closely behind.

When will 'The Witcher' be released?

The first three seasons of 'The Witcher' were released two years apart from one another, Season 1 came out in 2019, Season 2 was released in 2021, and Season 3 premiered in 2023. If Season 4 starts filming relatively early in 2024, a late 2025 release window would be probable.

Will Henry Cavill Be Replaced?

Fans may get disappointed a little bit, but Henry Cavill is being replaced in Season 4 of 'The Witcher'. Liam Hemsworth will take this role. In an Instagram post on October 29, 2022, Henry Cavill said that Season 3 would be his last time playing the character. He said, "My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf."

Tomek Baginski, one of the show's executive producers, said that Hemsworth "will be a new Geralt" for the series and that the crew is handling it in a "very lore-accurate" way.

After Part 2 of Season 3, not every character from the previous seasons will return for Season 4. However, a lot of the main characters will come back, and it is a little easier to predict exactly who will be featured in major roles since the upcoming season will be based on the fifth book in Sapkowski's series, Baptism of Fire.
