Amateur stargazers and professional astronomers are most likely to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience soon. A nova is likely to appear in the sky anytime between now and September. Situated at a distance of about 3,000 light-years away the star system T Coronae Borealis, or T Cr B, is likely to explode. If the star explodes, it will be visible to the naked eye here on Earth, reports CNN. The star exploded in 1946 last time and some people who witnessed it will have an opportunity to see it once again. It will again explode 80 years later.

Dr. Rebekah Hounsell, an assistant research scientist specializing in nova events at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, has confirmed the possibility of the incident. He told CNN that it is a once-in-a-lifetime event that will create a lot of new astronomers out there. He said further that the incident will give young people an opportunity to observe for themselves a cosmic event and ask their questions.

According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, this star was first observed in 1217 when Burchard, abbot of Ursberg, Germany, noted his observance of “a faint star that for a time shone with great light."
