Olympic snowboarder Shaun White and actress Nina Dobrev have called off their engagement, shocking fans. The couple, who started dating in 2019 and got engaged in October 2024, reportedly confirmed to part ways following five years together. A source cited to People, "it was a mutual decision, and wasn’t an easy one, but it was made with love and a deep respect for one another."

Just a week before, the pair was captured taking their dog, Maverick, to the Studio City Farmers Market in LA, where White carried a colorful bouquet while Dobrev strolled their pup on a leash. Both were frequently spotted together on red carpets and had glimpses of their lives on social media, from vacations to Coachella nights. In 2022, Dobrev supported White in his fifth and final Winter Olympics in Beijing, which he explained as “emotional” and “overwhelming.”

Signs of the Split

Rumors about the breakup started when Dobrev attended the September 7 premiere of Eternity at the Toronto International Film Festival without her engagement ring. She also deleted her engagement post from Instagram, a long-standing after White proposed in October 2024. The last time the couple was sighted together publicly was August 31, 2025, in Los Angeles, holding hands while running errands.


Look Back at Their Relationship

White and Dobrev initially met in 2012, awards show but reconnected in 2019 at an event hosted by motivational speaker Tony Robbins in Florida. Over the years, the cduo frequently presented on red carpets and showed glimpses of their lives together on social media platforms from vacations abroad to Coachella nights.

White asked the question in October 2024 at The Golden Swan restaurant in New York City’s West Village in what Dobrev thought was a CFDA/Vogue dinner. She cited to Vogue, “I went into shock. I just froze and stared at him.” After she admitted , the pair celebrated with champagne, caviar, and later dumplings and Shake Shack. White cited to People in 2022, “Nina’s just been so supportive and so amazing through this whole process for me. Through the pandemic, she was a lifesaver; she really made that time in my life special.” He also mentioned to US Weekly, “We have common interests. The way in which we met really kind of strengthened our relationship. And the problems that we do face, they kind of fall away through communication.”

The Engagement

In October 2024 White proposed to Dobrev in a surprise dinner at The Golden Swan in New York City, organizing the evening by citing her they were headed to a CFDA/Vogue event hosted by Anna Wintour. The proposal had a 5-carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond ring. Dobrev expressed the moment on Instagram, saying, "RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé," while White posted, "She said YES ��♾️."

In a November 14 Get Ready With Me video, Dobrev showcased the surprise proposal: "I don't think I've ever been more shocked or surprised or happier in my entire life. I'm the planner in our relationship so I was shocked that Shaun pulled this off without me knowing. Every detail was absolute perfection."
