Sean “Diddy” Combs will face his fate in federal court on Friday as a New York judge prepares to hand down his sentence in a high-profile federal crimes case.

Three months ago, the disgraced hip-hop mogul was found guilty on federal charges. He is set to appear before U.S. District Court Judge Arun Subramanian in Manhattan. His sentence is a key point in a trial that shocked the entertainment world and ended the career of one of music's most powerful people.

Combs, 54, has been in jail since his arrest in September 2024. He is currently at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. After a long legal battle, he will now find out how long he is expected to stay there.

Why did the judge turn down Combs' defense motions?

Before the sentencing, Combs' lawyers tried to get the conviction thrown out or get a new trial. On September 30, both motions were turned down. Judge Subramanian said that the defense's claim that the definition of "prostitution" was too broad was not true. He said that the government's evidence was "overwhelming,” as quoted in a report by USA Today.

What crimes did Combs get in trouble for?

As part of a large federal investigation, the Grammy-winning rapper was found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was arrested on September 16, 2024, and had also been charged with racketeering and trafficking, but he said he was not guilty.

Combs has been denied bail several times since his arrest and is still being held in the Special Housing Unit of the Brooklyn detention center.
