Voters will head to polling places across the country to cast their ballots tomorrow for the 2026 US midterm elections. It's important for voters to know beforehand the polling hours. The Poll opening and closing times vary by state and county. Voter ID rules can differ depending on your location.

Here's all you need to know about Election Day voting hours, how to find your assigned polling place and what you may need to bring, as per The US Sun.

What time do the polls open on Election Day

Most polling places across the United States open between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. local time. Closing times are generally between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The exact schedule depends on state and county rules. One can vote from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Georgia and Florida. Ohio voters can cast their ballots between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Some smaller communities may have different schedules. In towns with fewer than 500 residents, polling places may not open until as late as 10 a.m. Statewide rules can also vary. In Tennessee, polls close at 7 p.m. Central Time and 8 p.m. Eastern Time. In Iowa, polling places open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

Most importantly, for voters who arrive close to closing time, you are advised to stay in the queue as opposed to leaving. You are still entitled to vote if you are already in line when the polls close.

Finding a polling place near you

Your home address usually determines where you are assigned to vote. In most places, voters must visit their designated polling location because their names may not appear on the voter list elsewhere.

There are exceptions. States such as Nevada and California allow registered voters to cast ballots at designated voting centers anywhere within their county on Election Day.

In order to find your voting location, check your state or local election office's website. Nonpartisan services, like, Vote.org and VOTE411 offer polling place lookup tools. You can enter your home address to find the relevant location.
