Donald Trump and Melania Trump
President Donald Trump shared a personal anecdote about his inaugural night in the White House during a private dinner with major donors on Wednesday evening(October 15). Standing in the residential hallway with First Lady Melania Trump, the couple gazed into the Lincoln Bedroom. Trump remarked, “That was a surreal experience. I’m saying, ‘Do you believe this? We’re in the White House and that’s the Lincoln bedroom!’” He added, “It takes a while to get used to it... I’m still not, probably, used to it. It’s just a special place, what can I say?”

The Lincoln Bedroom, located on the White House’s second floor, has historically served various functions. In 1961, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy transformed it into the President's Dining Room, aiming to create a more intimate space for family meals. The room's evolution reflects the changing needs and preferences of each administration.

During the dinner, President Trump also discussed his extensive renovation plans for the White House. A centerpiece of these plans is a new $250 million ballroom, set to replace the East Wing. The ballroom will span 90,000 square feet and accommodate up to 999 guests.

Notable donors to the project include tech giants like Amazon, Apple, and Google, as well as individuals such as Harold Hamm and the Winklevoss twins. The project is privately funded, with contributions funneled through the nonprofit Trust for the National Mall.

Trump also unveiled plans for a triumphal arch near the Arlington Memorial Bridge, topped with a Lady Liberty statue. He also highlighted recent renovations to the Rose Garden, which now features paved paths and patio furniture, and introduced a 'Presidential Hall of Fame' along the West Colonnade.
