Droplets forming on windows are typical in winter, and some people are inconvenienced. Droplets form because the warmer air inside the house is in contact with the colder window panes, which often leads to water droplets forming on the window panes.
A viral hack doing rounds on TikTok suggests using small quantities of washing powder/liquid to prevent droplet formation. The video further claimed that the trick would also prevent mould formation. Several people contributed to making the hack video viral by adding their attempts which they claimed to work!
What do experts say?
However, experts have yet to endorse the washing solution method and feel that it (adding soap) can seriously damage the building structure. While adding a soapy liquid will force the droplets to slide down, clearing the window pane, and the moisture stays. Due to the prevailing low outside temperature, it (moisture) will now get vaporised and will remain on the surface and slowly sip into the porous walls or ceilings, window frames etc., and could damage them.
