What is Project Kuiper that Jeff Bezos is planning to challenge Elon Musk with? Here are details

Recent reports have revealed that renowned personality Jeff Bezos is all set to launch a brand new broadband service in Britain which is being termed as Project Kuiper and is planning to challenge Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

Project Kuiper of Amazon is actually preparing to launch a satellite broadband service in the UK while directly challenging Starlink of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, reported The Telegraph.

According to The Telegraph, the project eventually aims to provide high speed internet to underserved and rural areas with plans to begin commercial services in the year 2025. Amazon has filed regulatory applications with Ofcom while seeking access to radio wave spectrum to support its satellite network.

The initiative involves deploying over 3,000 low Earth orbit satellites to deliver internet connectivity to homes, businesses and government facilities, asserted The Telegraph. Amazon is exploring ground based ‘gateways’ to eventually enhance network performance and has been engaging with British defense officials while potentially targeting military contracts.

While Starlink currently dominates the UK satellite internet market with 87,000 customers, at the same time, Project Kuiper hopes to provide meaningful competition. Blue Origin, which is the rocket company of Jeff Bezos will eventually launch the satellites with a plan of first commercial service expected by late of the year 2025.

However, at the same time, it should also be noted that some industry experts suggest the full commercial rollout might not actually occur until the year 2026 or the year 2027.

The project actually underscores a broader competition between Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk in the satellite broadband space with eventual potential implications for global internet connectivity and regarding technological innovation, noted The Telegraph.
