What is Obama’s role in the upcoming US Presidential polls?

The Democrats are busy trying to win a challenging election, later this November. Various national surveys have indicated a neck-to-neck competition between the Democrats and the Republicans. Former US President Donald Trump is presently ahead of his opponent Joe Biden. A report in the ‘Intelligencer’ has now revealed that the incumbent President Biden is consulting his former boss, Barack Obama and the two are working out strategies to ensure that Biden returns to the Whitehouse for a second term. Biden had met his former boss in December for lunch at the Whitehouse where the two democrats had discussed various political and policy related issues.

Obama’s support to Biden:

It has been reported that Obama had not favored Biden earlier in 2019 and was supporting other candidates in the presidential race. His support to his former Vice-President began after the party announced him as the official presidential nominee. Obama became actively involved in shoring up support for Biden by convincing Senator Bernie Sanders and others to support him. He regularly spoke to Biden and his advisors who were running the campaign of Biden and offered his advice when sought. Further, both Biden and Obama have not seen eye to eye on some policy related decisions. The former US president has also stayed away from politics, but has kept himself regularly informed of the events.

Obama has also met many social media influencers in recent times and has sought their support for Biden. He has also helped the democrats with short clips which will be show cased during the campaign.

Obama’s advice to Biden:

In 2011, Obama had decided to re-assign some of his advisors to run the political campaign. He retained some of his advisors in Washington and sent the others to Chicago to get the political campaign up and running. He has advised Biden to do the same. Accordingly, Jen O’Malley Dillon has moved to Wilmington to manage Biden’s political campaign. The former president has also advised Biden on various policy related matters. Trump and Biden will face each other in a debate on Thursday at Atlanta.

Trump’s lead over Biden:

Obama has acknowledged that the upcoming election will be a tough campaign for Biden who faces anti-incumbency and will be up against Trump who has a slight lead over Biden in the surveys. Further, Obama lashed out at Trump and pointed out that he has recently been convicted in the hush money case and his firm has been accused of evading taxes.
