Andy Byron and Kristin Cabot appear on Coldplay’s kiss cam at Gillette Stadium, sparking viral reactions online
Coldplay concert Kiss Cam captured what appeared to be more than just friendly affection between two top executives of a billion-dollar tech company.

Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and his company’s Chief Human Resources Officer, Kristin Cabot, were caught on the venue’s Kiss Cam while attending the band’s show at Gillette Stadium in Boston. The incident, now known across social media as “Coldplaygate,” sparked viral speculation, workplace ethics debates, and even a response from Elon Musk, who replied to a related tweet with just a laughing emoji.

But how did a simple concert gimmick end up igniting such a firestorm?

What is a Kiss Cam?

A Kiss Cam is a long-running tradition at sporting events and live concerts. During intermissions or between songs, event organizers broadcast live footage of the audience onto large screens. If the camera focuses on a couple, the expectation is for them to kiss or share a light-hearted moment, often to the delight of the crowd.

The Kiss Cam is meant to entertain, break up the event, and engage the audience. But it can also, as this case illustrates, catch people off guard.

The moment it went wrong

During the Coldplay concert, frontman Chris Martin noticed Byron and Cabot on the screen. Not realizing who they were, he joked to the crowd:

“Oh look at these two, Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”

Byron immediately ducked out of view, while Cabot covered her face. The reaction was awkward and telling. Within hours, the video began circulating online.

Soon after, a tweet parodying Byron’s “apology” surfaced.

“Let me start by apologizing to my family, my wife, and our wonderful employees. I am a Coldplay fan. Not just of the first two albums. I also like the recent stuff.”

As of Friday morning(July 18), the incident continues to trend online under the hashtag #Coldplaygate, with memes, jokes, and commentary flooding social platforms.
