Donald Trump coin may soon hit the market as the US Treasury Department is considering minting a one-dollar coin that features the incumbent American President in order to commemorate the country's 250th independence anniversary in 2026. The U.S. Treasury on Friday released a draft design for the $1 coin featuring President Trump. According to draft images of the coin posted on social media by the U.S. treasurer, Brandon Beach, the 'heads' side would have Trump's profile and the 'tails' side an image of him standing before the American flag and pumping his fist under the words "Fight, Fight, Fight." The coin would be legal tender and go into circulation in 2026.

One-Dollar Trump Coin Design

The front of the potential design of the yet-to-be-minted one-dollar coin shows Trump in profile with the word 'liberty' above him and "1776-2026" below, according to images shared by Treasurer Brandon Beach on X and subsequently released by Treasury. The other side of the coin showed Trump holding a raised clenched fist framed with the words "fight, fight, fight" - a reference to what he said immediately after surviving an assassination attempt last year - and a flag in the background.

The Treasury is authorized to mint the coins for a year, according to the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020. The coins must have "designs emblematic of the U.S. semiquincentennial," the legislation says. It is not clear that Trump's image can be featured on a coin.

An 1866 law enshrined a tradition that only deceased people could appear on U.S. currency to avoid the appearance that America was a monarchy. The US Congress has restrictions on Treasury's ability to feature living people on coin designs, and it is unclear if the drafts could face challenges under existing laws.

The plan for the coin comes after Congress in 2020 passed legislation -- signed by Trump during his first administration -- allowing the Treasury to issue one-dollar coins "with designs emblematic of the US semiquincentennial."

It can mint these coins for issuance during the one-year period starting January 2026.
