US midterm elections 2026: November 3, 2026 is the day for the US midterm elections. Polling stations are opening across the nation, but voting hours differ by state. The White House's Election Day polling-place guide advises voters to confirm their assigned polling location, check opening and closing times and verify which identification documents they need. Voters should note that the polling location they used in the previous election may change. Polling places can change between elections.

Where can Americans vote today?

Voters must visit their assigned polling place. They should note that the location is determined by their residential address and local election jurisdiction.

What time do polling stations close today?

Polling hours are different across different states in the US. This makes it important for voters to check local election-office announcements. For example, for Florida, polls are open from 7 am to 7 pm local time. Voters in line by 7 pm are allowed to vote.

What ID should voters carry?

There is no uniform voter ID requirement across the US. Each state has its own rules and decides what identification voters must show when voting in person.

For example, in Florida, voters should show a valid photo ID with a signature. Accepted documents include a Florida driver's licence, state identification car, US passport, military ID and student ID.

Meanwhile, for Texas, acceptable photo identification includes a Texas driver's licence, personal identification card, US passport, military ID and certain other government-issued documents.
