Charlamagne tha God speaks during his Fox News interview with Lara Trump, discussing the Epstein files and the Republican Party split that has drawn a strong response from President Donald Trump.
Charlamagne tha God, whose real name is Lenard McKelvey, spoke during an interview with Lara Trump, who is President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law and co-chair of the Republican National Committee. The interview aired on Fox News.

Charlamagne said he believes traditional conservatives will use the ongoing storm around the so-called Jeffrey Epstein files to take back the Republican Party from the MAGA movement. He said, “I think traditional conservatives are going to take the Republican Party back. I think this Epstein thing is going to be a way for traditional conservatives to take their party back, I really do”, as stated in the report by Newsweek.

He added, “I think they know this is the issue that has gotten the base riled up. The MAGA base isn't letting this issue go, and for the first time, they know they can probably take the party back and not piss off the MAGA base.”

Charlamagne's comments spark angry reaction from Trump

After these comments, President Trump responded angrily on Truth Social. He called Charlamagne a “sleazebag” and questioned why Charlamagne is allowed to call himself “God.” Trump wrote:
“Why is he allowed to use the word ‘GOD’ when describing himself? Can anyone imagine the uproar there would be if I used that nickname?”

He also called Charlamagne a “Low IQ individual,” said he “has no idea what words are coming out of his mouth,” and claimed he “knows nothing about me or what I have done.” This controversy is important because it is about the Epstein case. President Trump has tried to make this case seem less important lately. Jeffrey Epstein was a rich man from New York who was found guilty of sex crimes. He died in jail on August 10, 2019, while waiting for his trial, according to Newsweek.

Since Epstein died, many people have shared different stories that may not be true, especially among Trump’s biggest fans. Some think Epstein was not really dead by suicide. Others say that important politicians might have done bad things with Epstein. These stories say that some facts are being kept secret, but no one knows why.

Before the 2024 presidential election, Trump promised to release files related to Epstein’s case if he was re-elected, accusing Democrats of covering up the truth. However, after returning to the White House, Trump changed his tone. When asked about the Epstein files last month, he said: “Are you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein? This guy’s been talked about for years… That is unbelievable”, as mentioned in the report by Newsweek.

While some Republicans have promoted Epstein conspiracy theories over the years, Democrats recently pushed for the release of the Epstein files, saying that the issue is damaging Trump politically.

Early last month, the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI announced they found no evidence of a “client list” linked to Epstein and confirmed that Epstein died by suicide, directly contradicting conspiracy theories popular in the MAGA community.

Trump publicly called some of his most loyal supporters who still focus on Epstein’s files “some stupid Republicans” who fell for a hoax. This exposed growing divisions inside the Republican Party and within Trump’s base, as per the Newsweek report.

Growing divide in republican party over Epstein files

Charlamagne described the situation as a “political coup going on right now in the Republican Party that people are not paying attention to,” connected to the Epstein controversy. He also warned Republicans might repeat the mistakes Democrats made after President Barack Obama’s two terms by trying to imitate him instead of creating something new.

Charlamagne told Lara Trump on Fox News: “Say what you want, Donald Trump is a once-in-a-lifetime, one-on-one, political juggernaut. You are not going to be Donald Trump. If you think you are going to be able to do what Donald Trump has done, talk the way Donald Trump has talked, get away with what Donald Trump has gotten away with, it’s not going to happen.”

He added, “So, everybody right now, we have the opportunity to have a huge reset. I think you should blow it all up, I think people are sick and tired of what we've been presented from both parties.” At the moment, it is unclear if the Epstein files will be officially released. The controversy remains a dangerous political storm for President Trump and the MAGA movement, as stated by the Newsweek report.
