What are Covid policies in China and how have they changed?

Reports say the Chinese government has eased the strict lockdown measures irrespective of the increase in the number of COVID-19 virus-infected citizens. This is because the Chinese are protesting against the stringent rules set by the government.

China has eased the strict restrictions set to safeguard the nation's citizens. After a week, this decision is out. Additionally, protests in the major cities of China forced the government not to be stringent.

China's Zero COVID policy:

This is one of the harsh anti-COVID policies in China, and the measures include local authority-imposed lockdowns, mass testing in COVID-infected zones, closure of business and educational institutions, only food-selling shops are opened, and many more. This means tens of millions of Chinese citizens are under lockdown with stringent policies. Some incidents reported under this zero COVID policy are workers at the Foxconn factory breaking out the fear of being inside. And another one is Ikea store shoppers facing the same fear. The Chinese government has eradicated the dynamic zero policy now.

There were acts of direct criticism against President Xi Jinping and the Chinese Communist Party. These protests were the catalysts to loosen the COVID policies throughout the country. The policies now have only eight to five days of isolation. And it is just three days if you are quarantined at home. Even international travel started in March 2022.

Current COVID cases and vaccination rates:

COVID cases are rising exponentially in China. New infections are reported throughout the nation, and a few affected cities include Chongqing in the southwest, Shanghai in the east, and Guangzhou in the south. More than 90 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated. The government's motto is to vaccinate the elderly first and, indirectly, the whole population. But the central pain point for the citizens of China is the rising unemployment rate.
