‘We’re giving everybody chance to have this done peacefully’: Netanyahu’s big warning to Hamas as he extends support to Trump’s Gaza peace plan

The 20-point peace plan, released by the White House, states that with an agreement by both sides, "the war will immediately end" with Israeli withdrawals timed to the release of the last hostages held by Hamas. During that initial period, there would be a ceasefire, according to news agency AFP.
While speaking at the press conference in the White House alongside Trump, Netanyahu said, “I believe that today we’re taking a critical step towards both ending the war in Gaza and setting the stage for dramatically advancing peace in the Middle East. I think beyond the Middle East,” as quoted by CNN.
“I support your plan to end the war in Gaza, which achieves our war aims. It will bring back to Israel all our hostages, dismantle Hamas’s military capabilities and its political rule, and ensure that Gaza never again poses a threat to Israel,” he further stated.
Trump thanks Netanyahu
Earlier, the US president started the joint news conference by thanking Netanyahu for “agreeing” to the plan for peace in Gaza. He, however, also cautioned that it was possible that Hamas could reject the deal.
Netanyahu warns Hamas
During the news conference at the White House, Netanyahu warned Hamas that if Hamas rejects the peace plan or tries to counter it after initially accepting it, then Israel will finish the job itself.
“I think we should understand that we’re giving everybody a chance to have this done peacefully, something that will achieve all our war objectives without any further bloodshed,” Netanyahu added. “But if Hamas rejects your plan, Mr. President, or if they supposedly accept it and then basically do everything to counter it, then Israel will finish the job by itself.”
Gaza peace plan: Key points
The Gaza war was triggered by Hamas's October 7, 2023, attack that killed 1,219 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally from Israeli official figures. Israel's offensive has killed 66,055 Palestinians, also mostly civilians, according to health ministry figures in the Hamas-run territory that the United Nations considers reliable.
