In a candid interview with The New York Times' "The Interview" podcast, the 21-year-old actress revealed the shocking experiences she faced as a child on social media, especially on Twitter which is now X.

AI Abuse Forces Ortega to Quit X

Ortega, who first gained attention for her roles on Disney Channel and in popular films like "Scream" and "The Fallout," recounted her decision to leave X, formerly known as Twitter, after being bombarded with fake pornographic images of herself created through AI technology, as mentioned in a report by USA Today.


Reflecting on the ordeal, she said, "Did I like being 14 and making a Twitter account because I was supposed to and seeing dirty edited content of me as a child? No. It's terrifying. It's corrupt. It's wrong. It's disgusting."

The influx of explicit AI content, particularly after the success of "Wednesday" in 2022, left the young actress feeling violated and uncomfortable, as per the USA Today report. The disturbing nature of these images led her to delete her Twitter account entirely. "It's just so repulsive, and I already was in a confused state that I just deleted it because it was unnecessary and I didn't need that," Ortega explained, highlighting the emotional toll these experiences took on her.

Ortega revealed the dark side of social media, where young celebrities often face overwhelming unwanted attention and harassment. The actress shared a particularly unsettling memory from her early days online, recalling how the first direct message she received at the age of 12 was an unsolicited photo of a man's genitals.
