Several parts of Chicago and Houston are set to witness thunderstorms and rainfall starting Sunday night (August 10, 2025) and mostly till Thursday (August 14, 2025). The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a weather alert in Chicago signalling thunderstorm risk and torrential rainfall.

In other major cities like Los Angeles and New York City, the NWS has predicted that skies will remain mostly sunny with foggy conditions prevailing in patches.

Chicago

There are chances of thunderstorms in Chicago starting Sunday night (August 10, 2025), and the stormy conditions are likely to prevail till Tuesday night (August 12, 2025). According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the conditions will become sunny and clear from Thursday and will remain the same throughout the week.

The NWS has said that there are chances of elevated thunderstorm risk with an associated Level 2 of 5 damaging wind risk up to 60 mph. There is also an elevated flooding risk.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected northwest of Interstate 55 tonight. A few of these thunderstorms may be strong to severe, with locally damaging winds being the primary severe weather threat, NWS said in its alert.

“Torrential rain will also be possible with these thunderstorms, which may allow for localized flash flooding. The highest risk of flooding appears to be across far northern Illinois, along and north of Interstate 90, where thunderstorms may move over the same areas overnight,” the alert further stated.

Houston

In Houston, there is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7 PM, then a slight chance again after 4 AM; it will be mostly clear with a low around 79 and a southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight.

On Monday, showers and thunderstorms are likely, mainly between 1 PM and 4 PM, then showers are likely with a possible thunderstorm after 4 PM; it will be mostly sunny with a high near 92 and heat index values as high as 102, with calm winds becoming southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon (chance of precipitation 60%). Monday night has a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10 PM, then a slight chance of showers between 10 PM and 1 AM (mostly clear, low around 79, southeast wind 5–10 mph becoming southwest after midnight; chance 30%).

Tuesday has a chance of showers with thunderstorms possible after 10 AM and will be sunny with a high near 93 (50% chance); during the nighttime, skies will be mostly clear with a low around 79.

On Wednesday and Thursday, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 PM. Both days will be mostly sunny with highs near 93; Wednesday night will be mostly clear with a low around 79, and Thursday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 80.

There are 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Friday and it will be mostly sunny with a high near 93, and Friday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 79. Saturday has a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms and will be sunny with a high near 94.

Los Angeles

Los Angeles is set to witness sunny weather with mostly clear skies till Wednesday (August 13, 2025), along with patchy fog. Conditions are likely to turn foggy starting Monday night and are predicted to mostly remain the same throughout the week, according to the NWS.

Maximum temperature will remain between 80 degrees Fahrenheit and 87 degrees Fahrenheit, while the minimum temperature is set to hover around 62 degrees Fahrenheit.

New York City

Weather conditions in New York are expected to remain sunny, and skies are also likely to be clear till Wednesday (August 13, 2025). According to NWS, the NYC will likely witness rainfall starting Wednesday and Thursday (August 14, 2025), and conditions will remain cloudy on Friday night (August 15, 2025).

In New York, an air quality alert will be in place from 11 AM to 11 PM EDT Sunday (August 11, 2025). “Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground-level ozone. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern,” the alert read.
