Weather forecast today: Dangerous cold, snow conditions predicted for large parts of U.S. on Monday after bomb cyclone. Power cuts to frigid temperatures - What to expect today
Forecasters warned that dangerous extra-cold conditions will persist into Monday morning for a huge swath of the U.S. from the Gulf Coast into New England that was cleaning up after a weekend bomb cyclone brought heavy snow and flight cancellations to North Carolina and flurries and falling iguanas in Florida.

Temperatures will begin inching up throughout the day but more misery was expected for thousands who were still without power from the ice storm last month in the South.

An area of high pressure in Maine will keep cold locked into the Great Lakes, the Northeast and the mid-Atlantic throughout Monday. The chill will even be felt as far south as Florida, where morning temperatures are expected to dip below freezing in much of the state, perhaps as far south as the northern suburbs of Miami.

Most places along the East Coast will be cold and dry. A quick burst of snow is forecast for parts of Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Some light snow is expected to move into the Northeast overnight.

Another wave of snow is expected in the Northern Plains, with snow forecast in portions of Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and southern Minnesota. In the southern and central Plains, it will be less cold as warmer air moves into the region, pushing out the long-lasting chill.

High pressure in Utah will keep it dry and rather warm for February across the southwestern United States. States such as California and Arizona can expect sunshine and warm conditions.

In the Northwest, Oregon and Idaho are expected to be dry. Rain is forecast for western Washington, with snow in the higher elevations of the Cascades.

Focus: Snow in Ohio Valley

Snow will fall from southern Indiana, southern Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky on Tuesday into Tuesday night. The snow will accumulate 1-3 inches in most areas, but parts of southern West Virginia, across the higher elevations, will receive 3-6 inches.
