A 31-year-old hiker tragically died while trying to take photos on Nama Peak in Sichuan, China, according to reports. Footage of the incident quickly went viral online. The man reportedly untied his safety rope near a crevasse to capture pictures when he slipped. The area is off-limits and authorities are investigating the incident, reported Shanghai Daily.


His companions could only watch in horror as he slid more than 200 meters down the icy slope, unable to intervene. One member of the group captured the tragic fall on video, which has since circulated online.


Without an ice axe, he slid more than 200 meters before disappearing from sight. Standing at 5,588 meters, Nama Peak is a technical sub-peak of Mount Gongga that attracts many climbers despite its risks.
