Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth actually faced severe protests from the military families during his visit to the US European Command headquarters located in Stuttgart of Germany, reported NBC News.

According to NBC News, the protesters who were consisting of around two dozen base residents eventually expressed their discontent with the US President Donald Trump administration's dismantling of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Also, they hugely chanted ‘DEI’ while referencing the recent ban of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on certain books and learning materials in the Defense Department schools which includes those covering psychology and immigration.

Defense secretary Pete Hegseth also reportedly issued a memo stating that the military will no longer allow the transgender individuals to enlist and will halt gender transition procedures for service members. Citing the executive order of US President Donald Trump, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the Pentagon to stop people ‘with a history of gender dysphoria’ from enlisting and actually canceled all scheduled or unscheduled medical procedures related to the gender transitions of the troops, asserted NBC News.

However, at the same time, he also stated that trans service members ‘have volunteered to serve our country’ and should ‘be treated with dignity and respect’.

These actions now align with the US president Donald Trump administration's broader efforts to eliminate the federal employees working on DEI initiatives specifically within the military. The appointment and policies of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have faced some significant opposition while including protests during his confirmation hearing and severe criticism over his views on women in combat roles and allegations of misconduct, noted NBC News.
