Warwick Davis returns as Professor Flitwick in HBO’s Harry Potter series
Warwick Davis, best known and celebrated for his portrayal of Professor Filius Flitwick, is getting ready to return in HBO’s highly anticipated Harry Potter television adaptation. Having appeared as Flitwick in all eight original films, he becomes the first actor from the movie franchise to reprise a role for the new series. The announcement, made through the showrunners on social media accounts, has excited fans who have long admired his portrayal of Hogwarts’ beloved Charms professor.

In addition to Flitwick, Davis also played the goblin Griphook in the original films. However, this role will now be taken on by Leigh Gill, popular for his performances in Joker and Joker: Folie à Deux.

Sharing this happy news on Instagram, Davis wrote: “I am so excited (and truly honoured) to share that I'll be returning as Professor Filius Flitwick in the upcoming Harry Potter television series. New Cast Members

The series also introduces several new faces to the ensemble. Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas, while Finn Stephens as Vincent Crabbe and William Nash play the role of Gregory Goyle. Sirine Saba has been cast as Herbology professor Pomona Sprout, Richard Durden will be having the role as the ghostly historian Cuthbert Binns, and Bríd Brennan joins as Madam Poppy Pomfrey. Meanwhile, Leigh Gill lights up a new interpretation to the goblin Griphook, combining continuity with innovation in character portrayal.

Production Details

The series is a collaboration between HBO Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television, Brontë Film & TV, and Heyday Films. Francesca Gardiner is involved as showrunner, with Mark Mylod directing different episodes. Filming started in July 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, England. The series is scheduled to premiere in early 2027, with each season expected to cover one of J.K. Rowling’s seven books.
