Former Wales coach Warren Gatland has once again taken the position after head coach Wayne Pivac stepped down. According to media reports, Gatland will helm the duty for Six Nations 2023 and the Rugby World Cup 2023. Reports also suggested that Gatland will stay until the world cup in 2027.

Warren Gatland was the head coach of Wales between 2007 and 2019 and led the team to victories in four Six Nations and three Grand Slams. Gatland also led Wales to two world cup semi-finals in 2011 and 2019. He was reappointed as the head coach following the team’s dismal campaign, as the team won three of the 12 matches in the last year.

During Pivac’s three-year tenure, Wales lost against Georgia for the very first time and fell down to the ninth position in the global rankings. The team lost 20 of their 34 games under Pivac, winning 12 and drawing one. The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) took the decision to replace Wayne Pivac, who took over the charge from fellow New Zealander Gatland in 2019.
