Warner Bros. on Thursday revealed the first teaser for One Battle After Another, most recent work from gifted screenwriter and director Paul Thomas Anderson. Featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, Sean Penn, and Teyana Taylor, this gunslinging thriller is scheduled to be released in theatres on September 28, 2025.

The teaser offers us an exciting glimpse into the compelling plot of the movie. DiCaprio's character features in the opening shot of the teaser sipping a drink as gunshots resonate behind him.

The teaser intensifies with shots of Sean Penn's character dragging a screaming young woman through an alleyway. Meanwhile, gunfire rings out in the distance. The clip then closes with DiCaprio's character, now older with a goatee, while he is muttering, "Just when you think you got a handle on things.”

Biggest Budget of Anderson’s Career

Before the teaser's release, little was known about the film's plot except that it has a contemporary setting and ensemble cast, stated a Variety report. It added that One Battle After Another is Anderson's most expensive film to date. The production cost of the film has reached an estimated $140 million.

Reportedly, the film was largely filmed in California under its working title BC Project. Anderson, as per the report, shot the film with 35mm VistaVision cameras, which are a hallmark of Anderson's directing style. It added that some filming also took place in El Paso, Texas.

The film, as per the report, is also Anderson's sixth with composer Johnny Greenwood and the last film of first assistant director Adam Somner, who passed away in November 2024.

Delayed Release Fuels Festival Speculation

Initially set for release on August 8, One Battle After Another’s release has now been rescheduled to September 28. The news reports stated that the moving of the release date sparked rumours that Warner Bros. is preparing it for a big film festival premiere.

Reportedly, Anderson has not historically favoured festival openings. However, his previous competitive outing was at the Venice Film Festival in 2012 with The Master. This film won him the award of Best Director.

A full trailer arrives next week, giving us a better glimpse into Anderson's new vision on film, the reports added.
