Football fans eagerly await the FIFA World Cup 2022, which is being held in Qatar this year. This would be the first time the World Cup is being organized in a Middle-Eastern country. The matches are scheduled between November 21st, 2022 and December 18th, 2022. They would be held at 18 stadiums in Qatar, located in and around its capital, Doha.

The tickets for the matches are being sold on a first-come-first-serve basis. This means that whoever buys the tickets first gets them first. There are no reservations per se. According to FIFA, 1.8 million match tickets have been sold in the first two sales batches. The Federation did not mention the total number of tickets available.

For fans not residing in Qatar, the cheapest ticket is priced at 250 Qatari Riyals. This converts to USD69.

The total capacity of tickets is 3 million. Of these, 2 million tickets are sold to the general public. In comparison, 1 million tickets have been allocated for the stakeholders of FIFA, including hospitality partners, sponsors and member federations.

As per the organizer’s reports, there was a 40 million match ticket request in the first two sale batches. The current round of sales would close on August 16th, 2022, but more seats might later become available as stakeholders return their allocated tickets. Furthermore, even during the tournament, more tickets might become available as fans return pre-booked tickets after their teams are eliminated.

Qatar’s capital Doha is preparing for an inflow of tourists during the World Cup, which comprises 32 matches. Currently, the city has a population of 2.4 million. Qatar has stated that it has 130,000 rooms available in hotels, cruise ships, and apartments. Additionally, there are about 1,000 tents in desert camps. To make accommodation more affordable, Qatar stated that it would offer rooms starting as low as USD 85 per night.

The country has also arranged more than 160 round-trip flights to bring in fans, and the capacity at Doha’s airports has doubled. The government expects the World Cup to add about 17 billion USD to its economy as 1.2 million visitors are expected.

For fans, tickets are available on the official website of FIFA. They would have to register themselves on the portal and buy the tickets.
