Want cheaper flights? Study reveals the best time to book tickets and save big
Traveling can be expensive, but strategic flight booking can save you a good amount of money. Knowing the patterns in airfare pricing, optimal booking windows, and travel trends can aid travelers to secure the best deals, for domestic or international trips.

Timing of your bookings

According to money-saving experts at Wethrift, strategic planning is the key. By examining flight and hotel data from Kayak, they found out that using PTO carefully in pairing with the optimal booking windows enables travelers to save money and enjoy longer trips.

Domestic Flights: For U.S. domestic routes, best booking time is around 1 to 3 months before departure results in the lowest fares. Airlines adjust prices constantly, and this window tends to provide the best balance between availability and price.

International Flights: Planning overseas trips needs a longer lead time. Booking 3 to 6 months ahead of departure is mostly recommended for famous destinations such as Europe and Asia, offering both savings and more choices for flights and seating.

Midweek Travel Offers the Best Deals

As per the Wethrift’s analysis, midweek flights are consistently the most cost-effective.Tuesday is the best day, with 14 major spots including London, Tokyo, and Istanbul providing lower prices. Wednesday isn’t far behind, with deals in 11 cities like Paris, Singapore, and Amsterdam. Monday travelers can also get discounts to destinations like Rome, Barcelona, and Dubai.

Sunday and Thursday flights can still be cost-effective, but fewer destinations provide significant savings on these days. Nick Drewe, Founder and CEO of Wethrift, highlights: “The data clearly points to mid-week travel as the sweet spot for deals. By aligning your PTO with these booking times, you’re essentially getting more value for your vacation days.”
