WanaBana applesauce, cinnamon pouches recalled, 64 children are sick - reports

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has received 64 reports of illnesses that may be associated with recalled cinnamon pouches. All affected individuals are under the age of 6, according to an announcement made by the FDA on Tuesday, as per reports.

The instances of children becoming unwell due to elevated lead levels in apple cinnamon pouches from grocery stores have now reached 64 cases, prompting authorities to investigate the origin of the contamination.

Children affected exhibited elevated blood lead levels within three months of consuming the recalled items, with reported cases spanning over 20 states, including Arkansas, California, Florida, Kentucky, and Virginia, as stated by the FDA.


The reported illnesses trace back to October when an investigation was initiated by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services. This investigation was launched in response to cases involving four children.

Following the investigation, the recall encompassed WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches, Schnucks cinnamon-flavored applesauce pouches and variety packs, and Weis cinnamon applesauce pouches.

The affected WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches are distributed nationally through various retailers, including Amazon, Dollar Tree, and other online stores.
