Wall Street advances as CPI data eases concerns about interest rate hikes

Wall Street's main indexes rose on December 13, followed by rate-sensitive mega-cap stocks. Even though the rise was less than expected in the US, it was anticipated by Federal Reserve to soften up its rigid stance on interest rate hikes.

Even though consumer prices didn't rise significantly in November, the benchmark S&P 500 hit a three-month high. The early trade after data revealed that even though consumer prices barely hiked up, the cost of gasoline and used cars also declined. This all together added to the lowest annual inflation in nearly a year.

The Fed is trying to lower inflation without risking the chances of a deep recession. Chairman Jerome Powell said in a statement that the higher rates would impact the demand with a delay. So, inflation should continue declining.
