Six people were killed, and many other people were injured in the Tuesday shooting, which Chesapeake Mayor Rick West later described as a mindless brutality that destroyed the town. Authorities believe the suspected shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The alleged gunman was identified as Andre Bing, 31, a manager at the store.

On Friday, the city of Chesapeake tweeted an image of a message that said police discovered while performing a forensic study of the suspect's phone, which was confiscated at the site of the shooting.

In the message, he appeared to address numerous employees by name. However, all direct names were removed.

The suspect said his dignity had been destroyed beyond repair by hacking his phone, but he did not specify how or by whom his phone was allegedly hacked. His employees also compared him to Jeffrey Dahmer, who sexually abused, murdered, and mutilated 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991.

Regardless, the suspect said his intention was never to murder anyone and hoped he could have spared everyone from himself. He prayed to God to pardon him for what he was about to do after the note.
