Both Minnesota and Virginia are facing widespread power outages due to major disruptions caused by storms, according to Dominion Energy. Utility companies like Dominion Energy and Xcel Energy are actively working to restore services.
Amid an ongoing heatwave sweeping through the state, nearly 1.1 lakh customers in Virginia are facing power outages, with Dominion Energy bearing the brunt of the crisis. As of Sunday, 9.09 EDT, Dominion reported over 108,000 customers without electricity, according to the latest data from the poweroutage us.

In addition to Virginia, nearly 11786 people are without electricity in Minnesota, 5814 of them from Xcel Energy. Wright-Hennepin CEA has 1892 customers who are out of energy.

The outages are concentrated in counties like Hanover (22,786 customers), Henrico (34,180), and Chesterfield (14,158), where residents are grappling with both loss of power and soaring temperatures.


The National Weather Service (NWS) in Wakefield has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for parts of east-central, south-central, and southeast Virginia. Effective until 8:00 PM EDT, the advisory warns of heat index values reaching up to 110°F, with oppressive humidity exacerbating the risk of heat-related illnesses.

Cities under the warning include Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Hampton, Suffolk, and Newport News.

Authorities are urging residents to take precautions, remain indoors, stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, and avoid strenuous activity during peak heat hours. Vulnerable populations such as the elderly and children are especially at risk.
