Virginia: 6-year-old shoots teacher inside classroom, say police; here's all about the incident
Six-year-old student allegedly had a handgun with which he shot the teacher in the classroom at Richneck Elementary School, as per police reports. No students were reportedly injured in the incident.

A teacher over the age of 30 at Richneck Elementary School, Virginia, is suffering severe injuries after being shot by a six-year-old student in the classroom. says Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew.
Police informs that the student has been taken into custody. On Friday, the student shot and injured a teacher during an altercation inside a first-grade classroom, as per reports.

'Not An Accident'
Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew told news agencies that the gunshot was not an accident, it was also not a situation where the culprit was going around the school to shoot students and teachers.

Drew did not mention whether they are in touch with the student's parents, but he said that police department members are probing the matter.
Witnesses
Nine-year-old Carlos recounts the incident and says, 'Most of the class was crying'. A parent says that she was freaking out, and was very nervous. She just kept wondering if that one injured person was her son. In a Facebook post by Newport News Public Schools, it was said that parents were reunited with students at a gymnasium door.
Aftermath
As per the Virginia Department of Education, around 550 students from kindergarten to fifth-grade study at Richneck Elementary School. Authorities have informed parents that the school will remain closed on Monday.

Laws in Virginia do not permit 6-year-old culprits to be tried as adults. Only a juvenile judge can revoke a parent's custody and put the student under the watch of the Department of Social Services.
