‘Violent Night’ targets $11.8 million Box Office opening from over 3,000 locations

"Violent Night" spreads holiday happiness with being second in the domestic debut, but the Santa movie will not defeat the "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever."

Universal's action picture, starring David Harbour plays a grouchy Kris Kringle who takes on a gang of mercenaries holding a family captive, is expected to gross $11.8 million from over 3000 locations.

That's a good outcome for the 87North production, which has a low production budget of $20 million.

"Violent Night," directed by Tommy Wirkola, received mixed reviews from critics but received a more favourable "B+" rating from research firm Cinema Score, suggesting strong support from ticket consumers.

According to Variety's Owen Gleiberman, the film "throws every genre it can into the compactor," but it may be a great Christmas feast.

With a solid basis to work with, "Violent Night" might find itself in a strong position, perhaps attracting seasonally tickled viewers in the holiday spirit throughout the month.
