In a now viral video, a $1 million luxury yacht, ‘Dolce Vento’, can be seen replicating the Titanic pattern by sinking off the coast in Northern Turkey, barely 15 minutes into its maiden voyage. The incident took place on September 2, 2025, off the coast of Zonguldak in northern Turkey’s Eregli district, a popular tourist hotspot known for scenic coastal views.

Video footage of the incident captured the moment the yacht began having problems and started tilting faintly minutes after its launch. Further, it quickly capsized and sank into the water surface, not taking very long.

The video also showcases a man standing on what’s left afloat of the yacht at the moment and jumping into the water thereafter.

In a show of luck, unlike the RMS Titanic, which reported over 1500 fatalities, the owner, captain, and two crew members of the yacht managed to jump overboard and swim safely back to shore. No injuries were reported.

Constructed at the Med Yilmaz Shipyard, the 85-foot (approximately 24-meter) vessel was transported from Istanbul to its new home before being launched for its first sea trial. Valued at $940,000 to $1 million (approximately £700,000 or A$1.4 million), Dolce Vento was intended to be a premium ocean-going yacht.

Immediate response and investigation

The Turkish Coast Guard and local port authorities rapidly responded, cordoning off the area around the sinking vessel and beginning recovery operations. Meanwhile, the shipyard confirmed that technical inspections and a formal investigation have commenced to determine the cause behind the unexpected and catastrophic failure.

While authorities have not yet released a definitive explanation, early speculation from maritime experts suggests that stability issues, particularly related to miscalculated metacentric height (a key metric in naval architecture affecting a vessel’s balance), may have played a critical role in the disaster, The Sun reported.
