Victoria's secret shut following security breach

Victoria's Secret, the global leader in lingerie retailing, suddenly closed its U.S. website and certain in-store services on Wednesday after a major security breach. Consumers trying to visit the company's website were greeted by a black screen with a message respecting the interruption.

“Valued customer, we identified and are taking steps to address a security incident. We have taken down our website and some in store services as a precaution. Our team is working around the clock to fully restore operations,” the notice read. “We appreciate your patience during this process. In the meantime, our Victoria’s Secret and PINK stores remain open and we look forward to serving you

A representative for Victoria's Secret said in a statement that the firm activated its response mechanisms as soon as it identified the incident, according to Fox Business. “Third-party experts are engaged, and we took down our website and some in store services as a precaution,” the spokesperson stated. “We are working to quickly and securely restore operations”

The firm declined to say exactly what the security breach involved, or whether any customer information had been stolen. It is also unknown at this time if law enforcement agencies were participating in the investigation.

E-commerce sales are a vital aspect of Victoria's Secret's operations, generating around $2 billion—or roughly one third—of its overall revenue in 2024. The outage has already taken its toll, as Victoria's Secret & Co. (VSCO) shares dropped close to 7% since the outage.

Meanwhile, the company is making efforts to regain its online visibility and impacted services, its brick-and-mortar Victoria's Secret and PINK locations are open for business. The company has not announced a time frame when normal business will be resumed.

This case is part of a wider trend of cybersecurity attacks on big retailers and service providers, which underscores the continuing vulnerability of firms with large-scale digital operations. Victoria's Secret has promised customers that its number one priority at present is getting secure operations going again while the probe continues.
